These dishes are tried among many tourists and If you’re traveling to one of these countries why not try one of their local dishes. There are many countries in the world that have their own specific dish solely to their countries. Other countries may replicate that dish for people that are not travelling to try. However it’s way better to try out these dishes in the country it’s made in. Who knows, maybe there is some special secret ingredient they put in to make the dish so good!
1. Guotie (China)


At number 1 we have Guotie which is a type of fried dumpling made of pork, chinese cabbage, scallions, ginger, rice wine, and sesame oil. This dish originated from China and its soft textures are from a specific method of preparing. As the bottom of the dumpling is frying, a small amount of liquid is added to the pan which is then covered which allows the rest of the dumpling to fill with steam to make it soft. Another name for Guotie translated is pot sticks, they are often nicknamed potstickers in North America.
2. Siomay (Indonesia)


Here we have another dumpling ranked at number 2 called Siomay. This is an Indonesian dish that is basically coned fish dumplings consisting of eggs, potatoes, cabbage, potatoes, tofu, and bitter melon. All the ingredients are gathered on a plate which are cut into bite sized pieces, drizzled with a spicy peanut sauce after they have been steamed. After the dish is done, the final touch would be adding sweet soy and chill sauce with a drizzle of lime juice. This dish is believed to be originated from Chinese immigrants who came to Indonesia
3. Quesabirria (Mexico)


Moving on from the Asian countries for now, we have a Mexican dish named the Quesadilla. It’s a popular street food in Mexico which is a combination of quesadillas and Mexican meat stew. The dish typically has large tortillas filled with birra style cooked meat and a good amount of melted cheese. In the process of making Quesadillas, the tortillas are cooked on top of a stove until the cheese melts until the outside of the tortilla becomes crispy.
4. Kontosouvli (Greece)


The Kontosouvli is a Greek dish which has a large portion of pork marinated with herbs and spices. It is then slowly cooked on a rotisserie. In the marinating process, It contains ingredients such as garlic, oregano, thyme, rosemary, paprika, olive oil, lemon juice, and red wine. After the dish has been marinated, the meat is roasted over an open flame which results in a juicy and tender interior that is great for eating.
5. Garantita (Algeria)


This popular street food originated from Algeria that is mostly consumed as a snack. The dough is made with a mix of chickpea, flour, oil, spices and water. It is then covered with a beaten egg and it gets baked in the oven until the top is a golden brown color. It’s usually served hot and the name of this street food got its name from the Spanish caliantetorta.
6. Egyptian falafel (Egypt)


Guessing by the name you could already know where the dish is from. This Egyptian dish otherwise known as Taameya is a fritter that consists of fava beans, onions, fresh coriander, parsley, and cumin. The fritters are usually coated with sesame seeds before they are fried. There have been debates on where Taameya originated from. However most food historians and scholars believe that it is an Egyptian cuisine.
7. Tacos (Mexico)


We all know about this classic Mexican dish, tacos. This popular street food is the national dish in Mexico. There are many varieties of tacos because of how many ingredients you can put in them and still enjoy. Tacos are made all around the world, either in your house, a local restaurant or a fast food joint that is generous enough to replicate it. Fun fact here; the word taco referred to gunpowder wrapped in a piece of paper into rocks which today is known as the thin, flat, soft or hard tortilla filling with a variety of toppings and folded, which can be eaten by hand.
8. Bánh mì (Vietnam)


Bánh mì is a popular Vietnamese dish that is actually a variety of sandwiches that has the same ingredient as a baguette. The tasty bread, condiments and meats are all from French and Chinese colonialism. The baguette itself was brought over from Vietnam during the colonial period. Most Bánh mì sandwiches have bread, meat, seasonings, and no added vegetables. However many people tend to put different ingredients but they almost never forget the baguette.
9. Gringas (Mexico)


Gringas is another Mexican dish that is made with flour tortillas which is filled with pork, cheese, pineapple, onions, chili sauce, and coriander. This dish is grilled exactly like a tortilla with all the combined ingredients. The tortillas are usually folded in half and eaten like a taco.
10. Carne asada tacos (Mexico)


Lastly on our list we have another Mexican dish Carne asada tacos. These tacos are the first tacos in history which appeared in the 1500s. It’s made of thin slices of meat cooked over hot coals, then the meat was placed in a corn tortilla and consists on ingredients like guacamole, onions, peppers, and lime. Other people tend to make different versions of the carne asada tacos in different areas.
